- 01Fraud examiners are especially trained in understanding why and how a business fraud occurs alongside relevant solutions on how to rectify allegations of fraudulent activities.
- 02Increase your earnings – CFEs earn 34 percent more than their non-certified colleagues according to the 2020 Compensation Guide for Anti-Fraud Professionals. Impact your company’s bottom line – ACFE research indicates that organizations with CFEs on staff uncover fraud 50 percent sooner and experience fraud losses that are 62 percent smaller than organizations that do not have CFEs on staff. Advance your career – CFE certification is documented evidence of expertise and experience, representing a high level of skill, knowledge and professionalism. Enhance your marketability and job security – Robert Half International identifies the CFE as "in-demand...one of the most marketable credentials today" and A.E. Feldman, a leading executive search firm states, "...the CFE has emerged as the gold standard in the area of fraud." Gain professional visibility and credibility – The CFE is accepted worldwide as the standard of excellence in the anti-fraud profession. Distinguish yourself from your peers – The CFE credential is recognized in the hiring and promotion policies of leading organizations, including the FBI, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- 03In order to be a Certified Fraud Examiner, you must meet all of the following requirements: - Meet the minimum professional and academic requirements ( be with an undergraduate + a master’s degree or are someone with professional experience and designation) - Have agreed to comply with the ACFE code of professional ethics - Be an individual of high and strong moral character - Pass the ACFE Examination
- 04The ACFE requires candidates to meet education and experience standards. The ACFE uses a unique point system to determine when candidates can take the exam and apply for certification. Some professionals may qualify to sit for the certified fraud examiner exam but still need additional experience before earning certification. ACFE’s system grants points for candidates’ degrees and experience in the fraud detection or prevention fields. Determine your current points by using ACFE’s point calculator.
- 05ACFE requires that each candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. A bachelor’s degree confers 40 of the 50 required points to earn certification. However, educational requirements do not include a bachelor’s in accounting, fraud, or a related topic. Certified fraud professionals may come from many academic backgrounds, so ACFE also requires professional experience. Determine your current points by using ACFE’s point calculator. A professional without a bachelor’s or associate degree may still qualify for a certified fraud examiner certification in specific circumstances. The next section details this exemption in greater detail.
- 06Professionals with a bachelor’s degree must possess at least two years of experience in the fraud prevention field. Acceptable experience includes accounting, criminology, fraud investigation, loss prevention, and law. A candidate with other professional experience can appeal to ACFE by submitting a detailed resume that shows how the experience meets ACFE’s requirements. ACFE grants five points for each year of experience and 10 points for each year of college. As a result, certification candidates with an associate degree must possess four years of experience, and professionals who did not attend college should have 10 years of experience.
- 07You will be required to upload all your official education certifications/degrees as well as submit 3 written references from former employers or colleagues.
- 08Certification does not end with passing the exam. Certified fraud examiners must complete at least 20 hours of continuing education courses every 12 months. At least 2hrs must relate to fraud deterrence and professional ethics.
